The Dominican tourist card costs 10 US dollars in 2026 and has been built into air and sea ticket prices since a 2017 decree, according to the tax authority's own general norm.
Entering the Dominican Republic as a tourist costs 10 US dollars in 2026, and you almost certainly paid it when you bought the flight. The tax authority's General Norm 08 of 2018 describes the collection of "los diez dolares de los Estados Unidos de America con 00/100 (US$10.00)" for the tourist card.
Why you never see it
The same norm records that a decree of 4 December 2017 ordered the tourist card charge to be incorporated into the price of air and sea tickets for tourists arriving by those routes. Passengers arriving in transit by air or sea, and those transferring to cruise ships, are excluded from it.
Who can claim it back
The norm exists partly to set out a refund procedure for people who were charged but should not have been. The tax authority asks for a passport copy and evidence of the charge, and the claim is made online.
What a trip costs
A family of four flying into Punta Cana pays 40 US dollars in tourist card charges, spread invisibly across four fares. What a resort adds at check in for local sales tax and service is a separate matter, and we could not confirm those percentages on a Dominican government page.
