Dublin tourist tax 2026: none, and 13.5 percent VAT on the room

Dublin has no tourist tax in 2026. The only tax on a hotel night is VAT, which Revenue applies to guest and holiday accommodation at the reduced rate of 13.5 percent.

What Revenue says

Revenue states that a supply of guest or holiday accommodation is taxable at the reduced rate of Value Added Tax, and that the duration of the stay does not affect the treatment. Its rate table effective from 1 January 2026 puts the standard rate at 23 percent, the reduced rate at 13.5 percent and the second reduced rate at 9 percent. From 1 July 2026 restaurant and catering moved to the 9 percent band, but the room itself stays at 13.5 percent.

What a stay costs in 2026

VAT here sits inside the advertised price rather than being added at checkout. A room priced at 200 euros per night therefore contains about 23.79 euros of VAT, and three nights at that price contains about 71.36 euros. Nothing extra is charged for being a visitor, and no city collects a bed tax.

What is still unclear

A city levy keeps being proposed. RTE reported in June 2026 that the government would not oppose councils collecting a tourist tax, but enabling legislation would still be needed first, so the answer for a 2026 trip is nil.
