Nobody sees your dates until you post them, and nobody can message you until you say yes.

Manaus is reached by air through Eduardo Gomes International Airport (MAO). The airport is fine; the arrivals hall is where unlicensed taxis and informal guides wait. Use Uber, 99 or the official taxi desk, and have your lodge transfer arranged in writing before you fly.

Day one in the city: Teatro Amazonas. Guided visits cost 20 reais, half rate 10 reais for students, teachers and visitors 60 and over on proof, and free for children up to 10. Hours are Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sundays and holidays 9am to 1pm only. The square in front of it, Largo de Sao Sebastiao, is the pleasant part of the old centre for an evening.

Day two: the Meeting of the Waters, where the black Rio Negro and the sandy Solimoes run side by side before mixing. Day boat trips from the city port cover it, often combined with a stop in the flooded forest.

The jungle: two or three nights at a lodge is the usual trip. Choose an operator with a website, a registered company and written prices that include transfers, meals and guiding. Last minute offers from people without those are where things go wrong.

Health: the US CDC recommends yellow fever vaccination for travelers to Amazonas state and lists the state as a malaria area, so talk to a travel clinic about both several weeks ahead. Bring repellent and long sleeves for dawn and dusk.

Entry: US, Canadian and Australian citizens have needed a Brazilian e-visa since April 10, 2025. Check the rule for your passport with Brazil's official channels before booking.
